Grunge Chic

Hi friends! Welcome back! As I've mentioned a million times before, one of my biggest style troubles is finding ways to keep my looks fun and interesting, while staying true to my personal style and wearing pieces that make me feel good. 99.9% of the time that means jeans. I've tried and I've tried and I've tried again and no matter what, nothing makes me feel as confident as a pair of jeans. That means, in order for me to keep things exciting, I have to find different ways to style my jeans even if it means stepping outside of my comfort zone a little. Which brings me to today's look.

Originally when I styled this look it was just the jeans, white tee and leather jacket. If there is one thing that I am not a fan of (on me) it's too much black. Anyone who knows me will tell you that it just doesn't go well with my personality. I usually can only handle one black piece at a time or I end up feeling depressed, which is definitely not how anyone wants to feel in their clothes. Unfortunately, I had to get out the door and didn't have time to revamp my entire look so I had to find a way to make this work quickly. I have to give credit to my husband here who suggested I add in a plaid shirt to which I said, "Hmm, you might be on to something here." I went with a brown and black plaid because, while it also had black in it, the brown was a brighter brown that I felt added the perfect amount of color to make this look feel more interesting.

Okay, now here's where me "stepping outside of my comfort zone" comes in. Normally, I would just wear the plaid shirt as an overshirt and layer the jacket on top, but I had the fun idea to tie it around my waist instead and go for a "grunge chic" look. Personally, I loved it and so did a preteen that walked past me and complimented my outfit so no one can convince me that I didn't nail it. Anyway, here's your friendly reminder that it's okay to try new things and see if it works. Not everything will, but sometimes you might end up getting compliments from random kids on the street and that's obviously all the validation we need. All outfit details are listed below. Until next time, tootles sugar plums! Xoxo.
